The long term goal of our group is to reach understanding of structure, dynamics and functional mechanisms of membrane proteins and self-organized biological assemblies and to translate this knowledge into new concepts for nano-devices, medicine, and new materials of technical importance.

Vanaf 1 juli 2011 is Jan Wijbrans benoemd tot bijzonder hoogleraar Geologie aan de Universiteit Leiden bij de faculteit der Wiskunde en Natuurwetenschappen. De nieuwe leerstoel in de Geologie is ingesteld vanuit het Leids Universiteits Fonds. Pied a terre in de faculteit zal zijn in het Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC), in de groep Solid State NMR van professor Huub de Groot.
